The Agency was organized on December 18, 1956 by William R. Richardson. It was located in the Simpson Building in the Village of Powhatan, and operated as a single proprietorship with one employee, Mrs. Margaret Palmore.
In 1978, the Richardson Insurance Agency was sold to M. Stevens Harris and renamed the Richardson Harris Insurance Agency.
In 1981, Ruth S. Boatwright became an equal owner of the business and the name was changed to Richardson Harris Boatwright Insurance Agency, Inc.
In March of 1989, the agency moved to our new location at 3829 Old Buckingham Road, just east of the Village in Historic Powhatan County, Virginia. In 2007, the agency was purchased by Amy and Michael Potter.
A new generation with a family connection since Amy is the daughter of Ruth Boatwright and has been with the Agency since 1993. Today, the agency is comprised of licensed agents with a combined total of 134 years of experience, including personal and commercial lines, life and health.
What makes Richardson-Harris-Boatwright different? We are an independent agency - not contrary just independent. We do not depend on some large company for our livelihood. We work to place our insured's interest first because they are both our neighbors and employers. Because we know them, we take care of their needs and do it better than anyone else.
We are able to choose for them the best coverage and the best price among the companies we represent. As full-time professionals, we pride ourselves in determining our clients' individual needs and strive to provide concerned, sympathetic and speedy claims service whenever the need should arise.
